Academic Guidance Guide

The role of lecturers that are directly related to the interests of students can include two things, namely as teaching staff and as academic supervisors/advisors. As an academic advisor, each lecturer is given the responsibility to guide a number of students in his/her faculty environment. This lecturer's guidance is very helpful for the progress of students to achieve optimal learning achievement.

It often happens that students do not fully understand matters relating to their educational program so that in order to develop a learning program for the semester, they need guidance from an academic advisor/academic supervisor.

Academic supervisors are lecturers who in addition to carrying out the tri dharma function of higher education, are also tasked with guiding students who are appointed by the dean's decree by taking into account the stipulated requirements.

Academic advisors have the following duties:

  1. Nurturing and guiding a number of students into academic life to become members of the academic community.
  2. Guiding the study development of the students he supervises until he completes his studies.
  3. Guiding students about their rights and obligations.
  4. Serve and guide students in the control process for semester lectures at the beginning of each odd and even semester.
  5. Understand and convey to students about the terms and conditions that apply at the Faculty of Engineering such as educational sanctions, practicum procedures, Real Work Lectures, Practical Work, Final Projects, and so on
  6. Creating an atmosphere of intimacy with students, holding open dialogue with students, especially with the causes of study failure in the semester concerned.
  7. Holding scheduled meetings with students, especially at the beginning of the semester to discuss preparations for the upcoming semester, and at the end of the semester to evaluate all activities in the semester
  8. Through academic advisors, there are opportunities for students to discuss personal issues that affect their study activities
  9. Academic supervisors need to work together with teaching staff (subject caretakers), Chair of Expert Lecturer Groups, Study Program Coordinators, Heads of Departments, Faculty Leaders and other parties who are considered to be able to help overcome the problems faced by students.

The implementation of the duties of the academic supervisor in the department/study program is coordinated by the assistant academic dean/head of the department/study program coordinator.
