In the fifties, the only higher education in North-Central Sulawesi was the Teacher Education College (PTPG) in Tondano. As a result of the upheaval around the sixties, this higher education institution in particular and educational institutions in general, was unable to carry out its mission as it should, and after conditions returned to normal, there was a decline in the world of education. At the initiative of several educational figures, several faculties were established which eventually developed into one institution under the name of the University of North-Central Sulawesi (Unsulutteng).

The development of the existing faculties at that time motivated the university leadership to open a Faculty of Engineering. Through the Senate Professors Meeting on September 9, 1962 a Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Faculty of Engineering was formed which also involved several leaders of institutions outside the university, namely the Head of the North Sulawesi Public Works Agency, the Head of the State Electricity Company Exploitation V, North Sulawesi, the Head of the Manado Mining Directorate Representative, PT. Shell Indonesia Manado Representative, and Manado State STM.

The committee in carrying out its duties has formed a Small Team to collect information and suggestions from agencies such as the Ministry of People's Industry Inspection for Central Sulawesi, Inspection for Technical Education in North Sulawesi, FKIP Unsulutteng, and the Indonesian Development Bank.

From the review of the information and suggestions, the committee finally concluded as follows:

  1. In assisting the implementation of development in North and Central Sulawesi Region, it is felt that there is a shortage of technical personnel from various levels.
  2. High school graduates in the Provinces of North and Central Sulawesi must fight for a place at a University / Institute that is far from their place of origin, to be able to sit in a Technical College.
  3. The Higher Education Law No.22 of 1961 requires a university consisting of the exact and non-exact faculties with a ratio of 2: 1.

It was also realized at that time that the main obstacle was limited funds, manpower and infrastructure. The leadership of Unsulutteng, after hearing the conclusions presented by the Committee and being aware of this limitation, decided that in the 1964/1965 Academy year a Faculty of Engineering was opened within the Unsulutteng environment.

With the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 132 dated October 22, 1964, starting from September 1, 1964, it was declared the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering in Unsulutteng, which was later known as Sam Ratulangi University, with one major, namely the Department of Civil Engineering.

Since 1968, there have been more and more shortcomings in providing academic services to the increasing number of students. To overcome this, an affiliate program was held with the ITB Civil Engineering Department in Bandung, by sending students to continue their studies at ITB according to the available places. This program runs for approximately 10 years. Since 1980 the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat has run a program that graduates themselves.

In 1976, the need for middle-level personnel was felt to bridge the gap between undergraduates and high school graduates as implementers of development in North Sulawesi. Through feasibility studies and seminars with several agencies including the North Sulawesi P & K Regional Office, PLN and the Public Works Office, and through the Unsrat Rector's Decree No. 873/UM/thn 1977 March 7, 1977, opened the D-III Program for Engineering Expert Education (PAT) with a major in Civil and Architectural Engineering. A year later, in 1978, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering was opened.

In 1982, the Technical Expert Education Program was approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture through the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 052/Dj/Kep./1982 dated November 17, 1982. Through the Master Plan for Development of Sam Ratulangi University in 1980, it is planned to add an undergraduate education program in Architectural Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering. This plan was implemented in 1 where new student admissions were carried out through the East Indonesia Pioneer III Project.

Based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 048/Dikti/Kep/1984 dated July 18, 1984, the Study Programs at the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat became:

  1. S1 Civil Engineering Study Program
  2. Architectural Engineering S1 study program
  3. D-III Civil Engineering Study Program
  4. D-III Architectural Engineering Study Program
  5. D-III Mechanical Engineering study program
  6. D-III Electrical Engineering study program

The six study programs at the Faculty of Engineering lasted until the 1988/1989 college year. Through various efforts to develop the Faculty of Engineering, in 1993, the S1 Electrical Engineering and S1 Mechanical Engineering study programs were opened based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture No. 511/DIKTI/Kep/1992 and No. 512/DIKTI/Kep/1992 dated December 18, 1992.

In 1994 the Faculty of Engineering received a request from several government technical agencies related to engineering and construction work in order to accept its employees with a Diploma III Engineering certificate to continue their studies to the Engineering S1 level. Through the decision of the Senate of the Faculty of Engineering in 1994, an advanced study program for S1 Engineering was opened called the Cross Path Program. Those who can be accepted as undergraduate engineering students through this program are those with a D-III engineering certificate after fulfilling the specified requirements.

In 1997 several teaching staff of the Faculty of Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering who continued their studies to Masters and Doctoral programs returned after completing their study programs. With the strengthening of the qualifications of these teaching staff as well as the emergence of local needs for the implementation of postgraduate education programs in the field of civil engineering, since 1997 the Faculty of Engineering has initiated the opening of the Civil Engineering Masters Education Program by submitting proposals at the Directorate of Higher Education and pioneering collaborations with universities. Advanced domestic engineering.

In 1998 the Faculty of Engineering took another step forward. The government approved the development of the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat, which previously only had 1 (one) department, namely the Department of Civil Engineering with 3 (three) new majors, namely: Department of Mechanical Engineering (SK Dirjen Dikti No.212/DIKTI/Kep/1998 dated 3 July 1998 ), and the Department of Architecture and the Department of Electrical Engineering (Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 457/DIKTI/Kep/1998 dated December 18, 1998).

In 1999 the Faculty of Engineering took steps to adjust to the new paradigm of implementing higher education, namely a step in the form of optimizing the widest possible use of its resources. This step is in the form of reactivation of the D-III Engineering Program. Rector Decree No.145/J-12/KP/1999 dated. June 30, 1999 regarding the appointment of the D-III Management Team at the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat has indirectly shown the existence of this D-III program.

In 1999 the pioneering opening of the Master's Education Program in Civil Engineering received a suggestion from the Directorate of Higher Education to establish a collaboration with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to be implemented. The team from the Faculty of Engineering immediately conducted an assessment of cooperation with parties from ITB. The exploration of this collaboration was successful, so that starting in the 2 academic year the Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with ITB under the umbrella of the Unsrat Postgraduate Program began implementing the Engineering Masters Program.

In 2006, the accreditation of the undergraduate study program at the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat was held by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) of the Indonesian Ministry of National Education. The four undergraduate study programs at the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat participated in the accreditation program and the results and accreditation ratings; A for the civil engineering study program, B for the architectural study program, B for the electrical engineering undergraduate study program, and B for the mechanical engineering study program.

The accreditation period mentioned above has ended in May-August 2011, so that the four study programs have applied for reccreditation in 2011 by submitting the required form documents. In early October 2011, the results of the reaccreditation of the four study programs were announced through the Website of the National Accreditation Board (BAN) of the Directorate of Higher Education, as follows:

  • B . Accredited Civil Engineering Undergraduate Study Program
  • B . accredited S1 Architecture Study Program
  • B . Accredited Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Study Program
  • C . Accredited Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Study Program

The results and accreditation ratings that have been obtained are valid for five years from the date of the issuance of the relevant BAN-PT Depdiknas Decree.

In 2008, the implementation of the Urban and Regional Planning Undergraduate Study Program obtained the permission of the Director General of Higher Education through letter no. 1/D/T/842 date. March 2008, 13. In practice, this new study program is managed by the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Unsrat.

In 2009, the implementation of the Informatics Engineering Undergraduate Study Program obtained permission from the Director General of Higher Education through letter No. 1/D/T/1689 date. 2009 September 17, so that the first batch of new student admissions was held in the 2009/2010 academic year. In practice, this new study program is managed by the Department of Electrical Engineering. Faculty of Engineering Unsrat.

Thus, the units for implementing higher education at the Faculty of Engineering Unsrat in the 2011/2012 academic year consisted of:
