Chairman of the Council of Chancellors of Indonesian State Universities (MRPTNI), Jamal Wiwoho, stated that the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) waiver policy for students affected by the corona virus (covid-19) pandemic was handed over to university leaders. The form of the policy refers to the applicable regulations.

Jamal explained, Article 6 of the Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education (Permendikti) Number 39 of 2017 concerning Changes in UKT regulates tuition fees relief in the form of temporary exemptions, reductions, cluster shifts, payments in installments, and delays in UKT payments.

"It is completely left to the leadership of the university," said Jamal in a video conference, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 5, 2020. The hope, he said, was that the UKT policy would not interfere with the implementation of the learning process in universities. Moreover, the impact of Covid-19 is not only electric kettle price felt by students, but also other academics, including lecturers, education staff, and university management in general.

"It is hoped that it will not interfere with the implementation of the learning process in universities with various supporting activities," explained the Chancellor of Sebelas Maret University (UNS).

He explained, students can apply for UKT waivers to the dean, which is then forwarded to the rector for verification and approval. Most importantly, said Jamal, include basic data.

This basic data relates to the current economic condition of the family. For example, parents are subject to termination of employment (PHK) or temporarily laid off. If parents are laid off, they can bring a certificate from where their parents work.

The Chancellor of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Panut Mulyono also emphasized the importance of basic data as supporting evidence when applying for UKT waivers.

"For those whose parents are civil servants, but have retired, they can show evidence that their parents have retired," said Panut.
