Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) provides tuition fee waivers for undergraduate study program students (S1) & vocational programs. This was to ease the burden on students in the midst of the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic.

UMY Chancellor Gunawan Budiyanto explained that the relief includes the Education Provision Contribution (SPP) of 20 percent, as well as the exemption of electricity, bandwidth and Student Activity Units (UKK) for active students in the 2020/2021 odd semester. According to him, the decision is a manifestation of UMY's concern for its students.

"As a form of our concern for morning dhikr children, we try to look behind the minimum limits of needs that can be run. Finally met, (namely) with tuition waivers, bandwidth, electricity & student activity fees exemption," said Gunawan through written coverage, Wednesday (10/6/2020).

Gunawan continued that this reduction in tuition fees applies to old students who are currently pursuing undergraduate education and vocational events.

Furthermore, this decision was taken for the good of all levels in UMY. In addition, this policy was taken so that all campus activities & programs can run.

"We have to understand the negative impact according to COVID-19, because it's not only students who are affected. We also have to think about the education staff & lecturers. In addition, UMY's social programs must be permanently running," he said.

Regardless of this, the learning process for the next semester will only use the method on the network (online). Meanwhile, the implementation of research & practicum is planned to start in January 2021.

"We will probably hold online (online) lectures until the end of this year. While student work, such as research and practicum, it is possible to use special restrictions and special health protocols we will hold in January 2021," he said.
